So I went to a concert tonight. First i've been to in a long long time, mainly because the only concerts Ivan tolerate anymore are those outside where I can lay in the grass and relax with friends, drinks and other outdoor accessories. Cramped shows at cramped venues tend to bring out the worst in people, or just the worst people I guess, so I don't really go anymore. So why tonight? And why is this worthy of my first blog entry in months? Well, built to spill is playing a couple of nights in sd this week. I never got to see them when I used to go to concerts, and always kind of wanted to see them. I guess this post serves to encourage the one person who still might read this to go and see them on this tour. They played quite a few songs from there's nothing wrog with love that were neckhair raisers, car in particular. But what was most interesting was how old these guys are. I guess they were probably old when they helped me through teenage love crises, but onstage they looked really old. But the familiar songs and comfortable unedginess really made for a "pumping, epic, and alltime" show. I think the autotune era (much thanks to chers do you believe in life after love) is the first in music where I really felt old. I feel like most new things I hear these days make no sense. Not that I've given up, afterall, I don't want to miss the next "turn my swag on." but I think for concerts, Im sticking to bands I listened to pre highschol graduation. Good thing pearl jam is touring this summer I guess.

So the red machine finally hit the big 200k. I meant to take the picture below when it hit 200000 but in the midst of my 31 hour call disaster I forgot. So I took the picture at 200100 this morning. I've been thinking about what to get her for her birthday. Here's what I came up with.
1. A road trip. Cliché yes, but when I bought her, we went cross country from WV to ca. I would love to do it again.
2. Soapy headlights wash. On married with children, al used to go to a place called soapy headlights to get his car cleaned. I'm sure you can imagine what the headlights were.
3. Insurance fraud. I'm not sure what she'd be worth, but I've always wanted to be a white collar criminal for a day.
4. Get her on pimp my ride. I don't know if xzibit is still doing this, but i'd love to have a badminton net come off the side of my truck.
5. Get involved in a driveby. I'm not sure how i'd do this one, but it would leave her with an awesome tattoo. Like that orv in goonies.

If anyone has any ideas send em along. I owe her...

-- Post From My iPhone
With 10.5.6 is giving me a builtin network interface error...I'm just using databackup instead for now. Also got some monitor mounts on eBay, so my desk is reclaimed! A more important thing in this photo are my new kicks, kso shoes from vibramfivefingers.com. Most comfy (and strangest) shoes I've ever owned. Kind of look like gorilla feet...I highly recommend getting a pair of these.

After watching the AWESOME cowboys steelers game today (and every other steels game this season) I am really wondering whether a team with such an inconsistent and at times straight anemic offense can win it all, especially this year, when there is no clear cut favorite. In 2000, the Ravens did it (in a similar parity filled season). They did it with Trent Dilfer. Now, Roethlisberger is far better than Dilfer ever was, but our offensive line is far worse than the Ravens' line that year. We aren't comparing oranges to oranges here, but not apples and oranges either. Like the erotic photo hunt photohunt example below, the teams aren't entirely the same, but the general picture is. Where the comparison really makes sense though is the defenses. The Ravens defense was impermeable that year (even though they finished the season second in total defense to the steelers). The steelers defense this year is better than that Ravens defense...winning games basically by itself this season. Much like the bears in the 85, the ravens in 2000...it might not matter what the steelers O does this year. James Harrison (seen below letting this browns fan know it is NOT cool to run on to the field during the game) and his fellow modern steel curtain might just be able to complete a super bowl run with lebeau's smashmouth d.

This blog has gone silent for a long time. I think there's two reasons for this. First, I am busy as can be going through third year rotations. Not really a good excuse except that the whole "lists of five" nonsense made creating entries frustratingly time consuming (especially considering noone reads this thing anyway). That rigid format, the second reason I've been as lazy with the blog as I am with other things in my life, is changing right now. Seeing as I am too lazy to change the header, I still will throw out lists now and again...but seeing as I got a new blogging app for my iphone, I think quick posts will be the way to go from now on. Starting with this one...delicious pepperoni rolls made for a friends bday yesterday. Needed to be posted somewhere...if only for more pepperoni roll pictures on google images.

To the 3-4 people who read this blog. Sorry. I've been busy/lazy. Now that 3rd year of school has rolled around, I am in the hospital lots, and when I have free time, I feel really using it to write these lists (as fun as they are to write). BUT. Hadi has criticized my failure to follow through, so starting today, I promise at least one update a week to this blog. Starting with todays suggestions to the IOC for the 2012 olympics. Each summer games, experimental events are tested to see if they can be added to the permanent slate of games. This was how snowboarding made its way into the winter games, and beach volleyball into the summer games. This year, the main new trial sport is one that should have been included a long time ago...ready...BMX BIKING!!! Really though, Sal Masekela must have some dirt on the IOC. BMX BIKING??? REALLY??? Is the popularity, watchability, and relevance to the current state of athletic competition of BMX BIKING really high enough to warrant its inclusion in the olympics??? Skateboarding...maybe. But BMX? We are thinking of adding BMX while dropping baseball and softball after this games (understandable, if they are going to replace those with something more global and awesome). Anyway...I can't write much more because I am on call, but here are five much more reasonable suggestions. Anyone with other ideas, post em.

1. Golf- The Ryder Cup is really really fun to watch. Why? Because of the amrrrkah pride I get (though not in recent history) if we beat up on the europeans, inclusive of any "Frenchies talkin' stuff." Let's globalize this competition. Major golf championships include golfers from all over the world. It's a world game, albeit one often reserved for the wealthy. The interest that a 2 player/country, match play format tournament would generate would be ENORMOUS. Imagine rory "talkin some stuff" to Tiger, and then having to face him in match play with the weight of his shit talking and his country's fans on his shoulders. It would instantly become my favorite part of the games.

2. Rugby- Union was removed after the 1924 games, and hasn't made it back in. While I'd prefer union, sevens would work here too. I think enough countries play rugby to warrant inclusion of this exciting sport (as much as I wish football could be in...no one else plays, at least at our level). Plus, the olympics peaks American interest in all kinds of random sports...synchronized diving?? While we don't get so into our boys in the world cup of rugby (an AWESOME sporting event), I feel like we could get down with an olympic team. Again...BMX???

3. Mixed Martial Arts- All of the individual fighting disciplines are there. So let's crown a world bad ass. Worldwide interest in this fighting competition has eclipsed boxing (another olympic sport) and so I think it deserves a seat at the olympic table. It would kind of be like the "all around" competition for the fighting categories. I won't be surprised if the shows up within the next few games.

4. Surfing- From an extreme sports standpoint, I think surfing belongs in way more than BMX. For multiple reasons. First, its a great "summer" venue. It will force the IOC to pick locations that are at least near to some beaches...unless of course host cities were to build large wave pools, which would actually create a pretty awesome specator event...even though surfing purists would be pissed. Plus, it would give the opportunity to put more females in little bikinis...something beach volleyball has already proven increases viewership. The picture above is from a chinese surfing spot, proving that some form of surfing could be included in the games no matter the site.

5. Strongman/woman- Like MMA above, I think an "all around" olympic strong person would be a great honor for the person and their nation. Not that individual weight lifting is boring (though I think it is) I think it would be more fun to test an athlete's overall strength. Bragging rights for the winning nation would be huge, and creative standardized event design holds potential for an extremely exciting competition.
